The Elgon Mountain was once the tallest mountain on the whole of Africa before it was reduced by forces of denudation to 4,321m above sea level. Apparently it stands as the fourth tallest mountain in East African and the eighth in Africa. Fortunately what took the height brought other wonders. Mount Elgon has the largest mountain caldera in the whole world covering a surface of 42km2 and has the largest volcanic base in the whole world covering 4,000km2. Hiking Elgon Mount offers impressive scenic views and remarkable floral encounter. The stretch to Sipi Falls is very rewarding. The waterfall is among the magnificent natural feature Uganda us gifted to have had.

Day 1:Transfer to Mount Elgon Area & visit the Sipi falls
After breakfast at your place of stay in Kampala, you will embark on the drive to Mbale and eventually Kapchorwa about 250km. You will drive through Mabira Forest, Jinja town, rice fields of eastern Uganda before approaching Mbale and Kapchorwa. The journey takes 3 – 4 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, you will relax a little and have lunch after which you will embark on the hike to the Sipi Falls. The splendid natural feature is very romantic to look at and drawing closer to it exposes you to its roaring sound. The altitude at the falls offers you impressive views of Elgon Mountain, the Karamoja plains and the swamps of Eastern Uganda. You will then retire for dinner and overnight. After an early breakfast, embark on a short drive to Mount Elgon Exploration Center with your packed lunch to embark on the day hike of the mountain. The day hike exposes you various vegetation zones including the tall montane forests and the Bamboo forest as you rise with altitude. The encounter exposes you to lush flora, butterflies and a range of birds including; black and white casqued Hornbill, bar-tailed Trogon, Hartlaub's Turaco, grey throated Barbet, Mountain Greenbull, Black Collared Apalis and Montane Oriole among others. After a relaxed breakfast, embark on the drive to Kampala. You can make a lunch stop in Jinja before proceeding to Kampala in the afternoon.
