Kabaka Birthday Run is an annual run organized by Buganda Kingdom to celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi the Kabaka (King) of Buganda Kingdom who was born on the 13th April. The run always happens the weekend before the kings Birthday and profits from the run are used for different social causes like Fistula and Sickle Cells. The 2019 Kabaka Run will be held on April 7, 2019.

Kabaka Birthday run attracts over 40,000 runners making it one of the biggest running events in Africa and in Kampala Uganda. The run gives you the opportunity to people to do a free Kampala city tour, keep fit as well as contribute towards social cause.

For five years in a row, the Kabaka Birthday Run has been successfully organized by the Buganda Kingdom in partnership with telecommunications giants Airtel Uganda. Others include, Post Bank, CBS FM, Uber Uganda and a few others with majestic brands Limited as the organizer.

Speaking at the launch of the Run, Airtel Uganda Managing Director V.G. Somasekhar applauded Buganda Kingdom for the unique opportunity and called upon Ugandans to, as always, join in the noble cause to alleviate the Sickle Cell disease through participating in the Run.“In line with our three-year theme, we intend to continue driving awareness about the Sickle Cell Disease. Last year, we donated over 140,000 sickle cell testing kits to Uganda National Health Laboratory Services, procured from the proceeds of this prestigious run,” he said.

The telecom sponsors four of their most important activities; the Kabaka’s birthday Run, Kabaka’s birthday celebration, the Kabaka’s coronation as well as Eid El Fitri. Airtel Uganda also sponsors the Masaza Cup – the Buganda kingdom football tournament.

Participants will be flagged off in LubiriMengo by His Majesty the Kabaka for the 5km, 10kms and 21km routes and they are expected to be there by 6am.
